World’s leading research and technology universities, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or the twin of KPI Igor Sikorsky – Warsaw Polytechnic University have social sciences divisions, The National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute”, which was ranked first in the TOP-200 of Ukraine in 2020, is not exception and  has its one Sociology Department.

The Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Sociology and Law offers Master’s degree (along with an undergraduate program and a PhD course) in sociology.

Qualification: Researcher, Lecturer of Sociology.
Educational Program: «Conflict Resolution and Mediation».
Form of study: full-time and low residency (mostly distant).

Conflict management is always a topical area of professional activity in any society. There is global high demand for specialists of this due to to the presence of armed confrontations and conflicts around the world.

The Master’s Program “Conflict Resolution and Mediation” was launched Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute  with the aim of training specialists who could formulate comprehensive strategies and tactics for conflict resolution in 2017 at the initiative of the Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine. National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute” with consistently high rankings among Ukrainian higher education institutions responded the first to this initiative and received support from the Embassies of the United Kingdom and Switzerland to develop and implement this program.

For the first time in Ukraine, a comprehensive program of training experts in conflict resolution has been created, based on the cutting edge research in sociology, comparative politics, public administration, psychology, and legal studies.

The program “Conflict Resolution and Mediation” is implemented at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute” on the basis of the Department of Sociology. Lectures involved into the program have an ongoing  cooperation with institutions and experts in the field of conflict resolution (both local and international). Training materials are being developed using the latest achievements of the world’s leading academics and practitioners in the domain of conflict resolution and peace-building.

The Master’s program includes the following professional “maps/blueprints”:

  • specialized(“Conflict resolution, mediation and peacebuilding”, “Strategic planning in conflict resolution and peacebuilding”, “National reconciliation”, “Modeling and forecasting of social conflicts”, “Theory and practice of negotiation”, “Fundamentals of restorative justice” and “Regional” conflicts “,” International humanitarian law “)
  • applied(“Protection of intellectual property”, “Design of sociological research”, “Quantitative methods of analysis of sociological processes”, “The newest qualitative methods of data analysis in sociology”, “Public relations and crisis communications”, “Fundamentals of scientific research”)
  • international(“Cross-national Studies in Sociology”, “Sociological Theories of Social Change, Transformation and Modernization”, “Sociological Studies of Migration and Internal Resettlement”)
  • practices(teaching, research, internships at leading public and private sector institutions relevant to conflict management.

The Department of Sociology, Igor Sikorsky KPI, pursues an active policy of attracting leading Ukrainian and international scientists to give lectures to students studying in the Master’s program in Conflict Resolution and Mediation. Guest speakers of the Department of Sociology regularly are E. Golovakha, S. Makeev, N. Kostenko, O. Zlobina (Institute of Sociology, NASU); G. Derlugyan (New York University – Abu-Dhabi), K. Harris (University of California, Los Angeles), A. Bozoki (CEU), P. Tamash (Corvinus University, Budapest), I. Krastev (Institute of Humanities Science, Vienna), K. Weston (President of Weston Consulting, Warsaw), representatives of the British Embassies, the Swiss Confederation, the US State Department, and many other well-known intellectuals, diplomats, government and public figures.

Employment:

Graduates of the Master’s Program in Conflict Management and Mediation have excellent employment opportunities, including but not limited to social research, marketing, government agencies, military and law enforcement agencies, consulting, NGOs, international foundations etc.

Our graduates are already successfully working in public service, law enforcement, and the Security Service of Ukraine (public relations department), political parties consultants, public relations specialists, researchers of sociological research centers, public experts, marketing and advertising organizations, engaged in journalism, lecturers at universities.

Entry requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any speciality
  • Striving to learn the world experience in conflict resolution

Entry does not require:

  • Previous experience in conflict resolution
